In Islam, any loan given and the lender ask the borrower to pay more than what has been loaned out is riba’, particularly known as riba’ jahiliyyah / riba nasi’ah.
Thus, in Islam a loan must be free from any kind of interest.
However, qard al-hassan (benevolent loan) is encouraged in Islam. It is the concept where the borrower himself who is willingly to pay more than the original amount.
For example, Mawi give a loan RM 1,000 to Ina. After certain period, Ina repay RM 1100 to Mawi. The RM 100 surplus is a token of appreciation. Ina pay an additional RM 100 without any coercion.
However in practise it is hard for a lender (bank) not to force a borrower (customer) to repay more than the original amount. However, if we look some nass from Quran & Hadith regarding to this matter, the real reward is actually come from Allah swt. If the borrower doesn’t pay more, Allah will give a reward in the Hereafter. The reason is because the loanee will not ask for a loan except he is in monetary trouble.
The reward for sadaqah is 10 times and for qardhul hassan is 18 times.
Yet, a person who is criticizing an Islamic bank for not really follow the Syariah principle will always being labelled such as not supportive enough or doesn’t really have Iman, doest not fear of Jahannam because condemning Islamic banking but the truth is, he just want to see a Syariah principles are totally applied.
A layman always being reminded for not to take any conventional loan because of riba’, the reward is in the hereafter thus why complain about the higher fees in Islamic bank. Their assumption is, if you are using a so called Islamic loan, you are a supporter of Islamic banking and if you’re not using it, you are the enemy of Islam.
(?)
Well, I hope the bank will also fear of any kind of riba’. Why force a customer to pay more by using all the Islamic labels and haven’t they read these nass, have they?
He who will give Allah qard al hasan, which Allah will double into his credit and multiply many times. (al-Baqarah : 245)
If you give Allah qard al hasan. He will double it to your credit and he will grant you forgiveness (at-Taghabun : 17)
“In the night of the journey, I saw on the gate of heaven written, ‘reward for sadakah is ten times and reward for qard al-hasan is eighteen times’. So, I asked the angel, how is it possible? The angel replied, “Because beggar who asked had already had something but a loanee did not ask for loan unless he was in need.” (Ibn Hisham & Ibn Majah)

Ya ya. Jangan ambil loan ngan bank sekular. Sedarlah kamu tu Islam. Huhu.
PUNB?
Thanxs Pak Di for this brilliant article. Fikirkanlah dgn minda dan hati yang terbuka. Bravo!!!!
p/s: bersama-sama merealisasikan slogan Malaysiaku Gemilang…..
Selalunya bayaran untuk loan bank islam lebih banyak kena bayar, sebab tu laa masih ramai orang islam ambil loan guna bank konvensional, tak gitu pak di?
Bila sebut tentang qardhul hasan, rasanya PTPTN sepatutnya hapuskan terus cukai 3%. Jadikan pinjaman tu qardhul hasan. Kesian kat pelajar yang kurang berkemampuan.
kalau camtuh, kita leh panggil skim tuh i-PTPTN la.. Islamic-PTPTN
ps: Kalau hapuskan 3% tuh… tak lama la PTPTN idup. Yg ader berhutang sekarang nih pon tak reti2 nak bayar balik loan tuh.. huhuhu..
thank you
Alyani pun berusaha gigih dgn cara tersendiri. teruskan jugak ye
pinjaman yang takde 3% pun masih ramai yang liat nak bayar
hutang WAJIB dilunaskan.
Saper terasa angkat tangan. Hehe.
p/s: Aku dah abis bayar. Ekeke.
Wallahu A’lam
Dear Pakdi,
I’m one of the supporter on using on Al Qardhul Hassan on all our loan. But now there is no one (Islamic Banking Service Provider) who wanted to start using this kind of method.
They prefer to use Al Mudharabah (which is prone to gives pressure to all loaner). Al Mudharabah is well known co-affiliate with some sort of commission and additional fees included on the system.
For me personally, as long as any Islamic Bank didn’t want to use Al Qardhul Hassan, then they still the same as Conventional Bank or Kafirrun Bank.
Dear Pakdi,
Another thought,
Al Qardhul Hassan has been written many time in Al Quran and Rasullullah has urge Sahabat to use it.
Qardhul Hassan concept is one of the big difference between islamic n conventional.
