More on Maxis Privatization

For those who are still confused or not really understood the article that has been written by Datuk A Kadir Jasin in his blog, you shall read further Malaysian Business (May 1st - 15th 2007) for another article titled PPB-Wilmar Deal Sets a Precedent.

Maxis deal could go for RM 40b, whilst PPB-Wilmar deal worth RM 15b.

Interestingly (or incidentally perhaps) these 2 deals involved Robert Kuok (Sugar King) and Anada Krishnan, the 2 richest person in Malaysia. After the merger exercise of PPB-Wilmar, PPB Oil Palms has been de-listed from Bursa Malaysia and the company now has been transfered in this instance to Singapore.

Please take note that Malaysia is the largest palm oil producer in the world, Singapore had tried once to take over Crude Palm Oil (CPO) market from our local bourse, PPB owns about 72,500 hectares of palm oil plantation in Sabah & Sarawak and another 290,000 hectares in Indonesia. PPB also has business in sugar refining, flour milling which sugar and flour business are government franchises.

Currently Malaysia is still having ongoing talk on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and if the privatization exercise like this is continuously allowed by our government would you like to hear that Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Telekom Malaysia (TM), Pos Malaysia for example are being held by foreign investor?

You may read the report from The Star too in this Bizweek section to get more information about Maxis privatization issue.

As Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, CEO of Bursa Malaysia said:

“While we acknowledge that Maxis has been a strong performer on our exchange, we are pleased to note that the company has stated its intent to return to Bursa Malaysia once it is ready. This is a strong signal that our market continues to remain attractive to our blue-chip companies.”
